When only a crisp crust and wood-fired cooking will do, turn to Roccbox, a high-powered oven that looks as great as it cooks. The oven measures only about 16 inches wide by 18 inches with legs extended, but packs a blisteringly-hot punch. Founder Tom Gozney, driven by a passion for the ancient practice of stone and fire cooking has taken elements of commercial ovens and adapted them to fit this backyard bonus.
How it works: It has a built-in thick stone floor that creates the ultra dry environment necessary to crisp pizza crust from below with rolling flames above to bake the toppings. The oven’s body is made of multiple layer of steel layers protected by an insulated silocone shell, making it safe to the touch, even though temperatures can cross over 900ºF. The oven quickly gets up to temperature so you can cook a pizza in just 60 seconds (which translates to 20+ pizzas per hour, satisfying even the hungriest party crowd).
It also boasts a thermometer allowing easy monitoring of the temperature from below the stone and interchangeable burners—either wood-burning or gas. Though designed for ultimate pizza making, you can also use the oven for other recipes, like Spicy Baked Buffalo Wings (see the recipe here)
