Sometimes the best views NYC come from places you would not consider, like this waterfront Brooklyn hotel that delivers a gasp-worthy perspective on Manhattan. The Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg offers wraparound views from its bar—along with nice cocktails.
Who To Take: Out-Of-Towners who crave a less touristy NYC view or the friend who loves being social while waiting on line to get in
The Ides Bar at The Wythe Hotel has lofty ideals. Head there to experience classic cocktails and classic views of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and beyond. Their ample deck, which wraps around the entire bar, looks out in four directions. It’s more of a vista, than a nestled-in view, and has a true calming effect—like being on top of the world—even though it’s not that high up.
Andrew Tarlow, famed Brooklyn restauranteur, who also runs Reynards, the restaurant on the ground floor, has included small bites on the menu in addition to the cocktails. We went there early one night (access is first come, first serve, so arriving early pays off!) to admire the sunset, and were able to snag a table facing west.
The Wythe Hotel was converted from a factory and retains an industrial, Brooklyn feel, and remains quite popular. You may be rubbing more than elbows as the space gets packed. Thankfully long, narrow tables echo the bar, so that there is a spot to rest your drink as you stand and mingle. Check out the hotel’s Instagram page, which is truly creative and features contributions from guests.
