So Continental! Estela gives you a vibe that’s decidedly New York, via everywhere else. A true melting pot with fantastic small plates and cocktails.

Who to Take: Your Friend From Out of Town, to Get a Taste of NYC

Stopped in for a quick bite at the u-shaped bar one evening, which was packed and lively—I was lucky to get a seat. Estela is a run by former Blue Hill at Stone Barns beverage director Thomas Carter and James Beard Award-nominated chef Ignacio Mattos, who hails from Uruguay.

On the menu are shareable plates with interesting combinations, like Fluke with Green Beans and Avocado, endive, walnuts, anchovy, and ubriaco rosso (an Italian cheese) and Fried Arroz Negro with squid and romesco. The bar hosts selections from France, Germany and Italy, plus classically-inspired cocktails.
