WHO TO TAKE: SOMEONE FOR A QUICK BITE AND DRINK AT THE BAR OR A FELLOW FOODIE AND CHOCOLATE LOVER

Ever since I had an extended lunch at the newly opened Gabriel Kreuther, I had been wanting to see what the experience was in the Bar area. This half of the restaurant offers up a more casual menu, but that’s an understatement. This “casual” menu pulls out all the stops, just as the formal dining room does. I guess you could just say that since you’re not doing course or a  tasting menu, you can get in and out faster.

I love the tall windows with ball chain window coverings which feels city-ish, and juxtaposes with the giant reclaimed beams that divide the main dining room from the bar. It’s a lovely mix, and a special room with high celings that gives you room to breathe. While waiting at the bar, some puffy, crunchy chips arrived to assuage any hunger pangs. We started with some snacks, and these rice balls were absolute heaven. (see the photo at the top of this post)

Let’s balance out that lovely white wine with a crisp, refreshing salad. The Clos des Lunes “Lune Blanche” Blanc Sec 2015 (Bordeaux, France) was a mix of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Notes: Very flattering mirabelle plum, white peach and yellow apple fruit flavors are backed by a hint of anise on the juicy, forward finish.

Being of Slovak descent, I had to order the schnitzel. This one was a bit thin for my tastes… but still very tasty. Photo, right, sitting at the bar next to a lovely, and oversized, flower arrangement.

Bob enjoyed a fantastic and light piece of crusted fish along with some mussels. What a wonderful way to spend a summer evening.

Even though we did not order dessert, a lovely assortment of GK’s special chocolates arrived on the bar, with some pocky sticks to boot. There is a chocolate store with more of Gabriel Kreuther’s goodies right next to the restaurant—which would make a great pitstop before heading off to visit a friend. You will be a cherished guest!
