If you are looking for a really smooth tequila for upcoming Cinco de Mayo (or whenever!) consider one made by a master distiller with an engineering mindset. We got to sip and savor this tequila tasting at Agave, in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village.

Who To Take to Agave: The person craving high-end Mexican fare and equally-nice tequilas.

When I hear about an 100% agave tequila tasting, and a master distiller in town, I clear my calendar. [Hobnob is lucky to get such enticing invitations, and we love to share our learnings.] The tasting of this tremendous tequila took place at Agave, in Greenwich Village, NYC, where our sips were accompanied by fantastic Mexican bites—as it should be. The antojitos of the night: empanadas deluxe, pork tacos, and calamari, by Agave, made a hit at the tasting.

THE PASSION BEHIND AN ARTISANAL TASTE
Marco Cedano, and his son Rodrigo (who translated for him) told us the story of an engineer who was passionate about creating a truly special, small-batch tequila. Having honed his skills back in the day at Don Julio, Cedano craved something a little more artisanal, something that represented his own personal expression. We are fortunate to sample the results of his passion, and precise engineering mindset.

TASTING NOTES: BLANCO, REPOSADO, ANEJO
If you are a tequila lover, then this is a must try. The name Tromba means “Big Rain” and refers to the seasonal rainfall that brings the agave fields of Mexico to life. Tequila Tromba Blanco, the starting point of this trio, has fresh botanical aromas of mint and aniseed, with notes of pineapple, caramelized agave and white pepper. Tromba Reposado: aged in white oak American Whiskey barrels for 6 months; notes of cacao, dry walnut, almond, orange and caramelized pineapple. Tromba Anejo: (HOBNOB fave!) aged in white oak American Whiskey barrels for over 20 months; notes of chocolate, caramelized anise, apple and peach. Tequila Tromba Blanco, $50. Tromba Reposado, $58. Tromba Anejo, $88. Enjoy this adorable short animation, which tells the story of Tromba.

Check out our post of four tequila cocktail recipes  that show off Tromba’s wonderful taste in the mix and look gorgeous in the glass.
