From the chef who brought you deluxe dishes at The Modern, we have a new place in NYC to indulge all the senses. Gabriel Kreuther provides a place to truly worship the art of fine dining.
Who to Take: Someone very special or an after-work buddy and sit at the bar
I must reveal, Gabriel Kreuther is one of my favorite chefs in NYC—I have always admired his Alsatian sensibilities and the wonderfully plated dishes I’ve eaten at the bar of The Modern. His new spot also provides dual dining options, just as The Modern did—with a slightly less fancy menu at the bar. If you are thinking of a total treat: Choose the full-blown shebang, where you can start with caviar, continue with 4-courses, and end with white chocolate mousse. Alternately, go with Kreuther’s just-as-enticing bar menu featuring many of his classics.
The space is serene, and almost temple-like, except for the homey wallpaper gracing the front wall. Service is exemplary. Go and treat yourself, as we did for this many-coursed, extended lunch
A Lunch to Remember
The first of our bread offering came freshly baked in its own ceramic with an avocado spread. (See photo at the top of this post) This set the tone for the extended lunch.
A rustic, yet simple space defies the elegance, and special attention given to the food. Dishes and silverware updated throughout the meal in a cozy banquette. We were lovingly amused twice.
Nova Scotia Halibut with celery root, hen of the woods, riesling-cockle sauce.
Crudo.
The sturgeon and sauerkraut tart under a yellow mousseline and a dollop of caviar, shown next to Fennel-Cockle Velouté.
Baked Dorade Royale, in a fennel seed-coriander broth, with green tomato marmalade.
Pocky sticks and house-made chocolates.
