Everyone wishes they had a shop like this in their ‘hood. Forager’s City Grocery offers up fresh and organic vegetables and fruit, great pantry items to stock, cheese, meat and handy prepared take-away. To boot, is a lovely restaurant in back with nice wines and cocktails.
Perfect for: Grabbing a bite or gathering superb ingredients for cooking or hosting
As close as you can get to farm-fresh—in Chelsea, NYC. This little grocery makes me wish I still lived on the west side.
There is a fantastic array of fresh organic vegetables from the Foragers’ micro-farm in Canaan, local meats aged in-house, charcuterie, pantry items, cheeses, herbs, and teas. But, like most New Yorkers, I was delighted to see a vast selection of prepared take-away foods, like rotisserie chickens, foccaccia (the mushroom came home with me, as I had guests stopping in for a glass of prosecco later), and lots of cute sandwiches.
Adjacent to the grocery is Foragers City Table, a true farm-to-table restaurant. Under the direction of Executive Chef, Nickolas Martinez, an array of healthy, fresh bites line the menu, like King Crab Salad, with tarragon, snow pea, mint and cilantro, and Roasted Chestnut Soup, with Hudson Valley Foie Gras, parsnip, honey and spiced crème fraîche. Inventive cocktails, local beers and an eco-minded selections of wines on tap are available to accompany the food.
