Highlights of a New Year’s Eve trip to the south, I hope will inspire a trip of your own. See the photos from the Miami walks we did through South Beach, and the Wynwood Arts District.

I always travel with an eye on design, and Miami was loaded with beautiful architecture, lush foliages, and fun galleries. I didn’t get to see everything in 3 days, but managed to catch the style vibe. See my other posts on the restaurants and drinking around town. Here are some highlights of the trip.

Let’s start with the gorgeous tall palms, which seem to channel ancient Rome, at the Loews Miami Beach and compare them to the trees in the backyard at The Delano, full moon included. Move onto the lobby of the Delano, whose design still holds up…though it might be time for a little sprucing up! Be prepared to pay dearly for cocktails and wait poolside.

Weekend in Scenic Miami

Scenes from Wynwood: Plant The Future uses greenery to accentuate its whimsical, sculptural planters. At a pitstop to fortify and rest our weary limbs, Freshii had the loveliest succulent plant display and fantastic rejuvenating green juice.

A favorite spot which did not allow photography was the Robert Fontaine Gallery, who featured lots of Warhol pieces plus a few stunners by Peter Combe, who created oversized portraits with a collage of angled disks—and as you walked around the art, the image morphed, shimmered, varied. Quite striking. Also in the gallery, wood sculptures by James McNabb, impossibly intricate depictions of abstract skyscrapers.
