Now a certified New Yorker, this Colombian gent is known for his snazzy outfits, charming personalty, and Queens-based soccer school. Meet Luis Antonio Bolaños.

Luis Antonio Bolaños was part of an historic victory of an elite group of football (soccer) players that in 1971 created a new team called the “Black Gold.” This group was created when the local team was unable to participate in the championship due to financial problems.

Luis played defense. His participation was swift, and intense, gaining the respect of established players and managers. Even though Luis possessed great technical insight and expertise of the game, and was in great physical condition, of the 14 teams participating, the team came in last. They played as the ‘Black Gold’ for only one year. Afterwards, the team disbanded and the name retired.

Mr. Bolaños presently resides in Kew Gardens, New York.

His intense love for the game has not left him. He created Bolaños Soccer School, teaching a new generation of children how to play and participate in the game he so loved—football (soccer). —by Shawnay Handler
